My grandmother's first language was Yiddish but none of us speak or understand it.

My father was remembering a term: "laim’n a’gailem" or something like that but couldn't remember what it meant. He went online and couldn't find a definition. Can you help?

My first language is Yiddish but I'm completely stumped by that phrase. Is it possible that the words are broken up differently, or that some consonants are mixed up? What is the context?

Literal translation is a statue made of stone. Meant to imply a dumbbell. Or a klutz.

Probably taken from the story of the goilem in prag, made from leim, clay. Means an idiot.
