Im not talking about original posts. But people who respond with loooong posts, do you read them or just pass over them.

Personally when a post gets too long I just skip right over it. I wonder why some people write so much when I am sure that many people just pass over long posts (maybe Im wrong but I dont think so)

Depends. It depends on who wrote it and if I'm interested in it when I skim or start, I'll read it. (Also depends on how much time I have.)

It depends on how much time I have.

It also matters how the sentences are spaced. I get dizzy when reading from a screen and need to take breaks sometimes, so short paragraphs give me a reference point from where to continue.

Unless someone is usually on a rant, I don't decide to skip replies written by specific posters.

Sometimes. It helps if they spaced things out so it's not one giant block. Also it depends, obviously, if the response is interesting or not. If a few sentences in it seems not of interest to me then I move on.

depends on who wrote the reply. I always read FS's long replies, for example, but there are other posters whose posts I find inane and I skip right over them. long or short, frankly.

If it looks from the first paragraph or two that a post will be long, rambly, somewhat incoherent, a wall of text with no breaks between the paragraphs, full of bad grammar/spelling, etc., then I totally don't read it. But then again, I hateeeee short posts that r like that 2, kwim? Especially if it's by some amother that I won't be able to keep track of in the conversation.

But I loooove Fox's long posts, for example, because they're like reading excellent essays. Logically laid out, informative, and often sprinkled with humor. She even puts in subheaders for different facets of her argument, in case I don't have time to read it all and want to skip down to what interests me most.

Depends on how much white space there is. I can't read one long paragraph, even if it's only ten lines. That's why I always break up my replies and do no more than 3-4 sentences per paragraph.

A woman after mine own heart. That, or we went to separate schools together.

I wish I could say I have the intestinal fortitude to skip on sight any post that is a solid block of text with no white space, but every so often, particularly when avoiding doing something else, I do try to decipher one of those nightmares. Hey, people do desperate things when there is something else they should be doing and don't want to do. Right now I should be baking for YT.

AIUI, when people post from a smartphone, all formatting evaporates and the message is sent as a solid block of text. Well, then don't send long posts from a smartphone, at least not if you want people to read them and you aren't just in it for the self-expression.

I only read them if I'm really bored or if the topic is really interesting. Otherwise, I have no patience.

Another "it depends" vote. If I like the poster I usually read long posts. If I don't know the poster it will depend on if the first few lines catch my attention, as well as the formatting (another fan of white. . . Smile ). And if the poster is "amother" almost never.

I know that I tend to write posts that are too long -- I try to keep things as short as I can while still expressing myself clearly, but it is a very difficult skill to master! And in general I'd rather read a long post that is articulate, knowledgeable and well reasoned then a short one that is confusing or incoherent. (Of course the best would be both, but if I had to choose. . )

I agree with this. However, even if its spaced properly, I still might not read it all.
