Rabbi Kanareks yeshiva is Toras Aharon
londinsky's yeshiva (Ohr Hatorah?)
Ohr Elchonon
Toras Menachem
Toras Zev
Shaagas Aryeh

I'd love a summary of the general rundown of each - we have to start thinking about schools for my son

Not to be mean, but rather HELPFUL......

If you have major money, just ask the school for a thorough description of themselves... If you don't its meaningless, the list and the differences between the schools..

All that really matters is who will accept you, PERIOD.....

We are all well aware of the school situation. That does not mean we do not need to do minimal research to know where to submit an application to. Eventually everyone gets on somewhere so when they can me to say I got accepted to xy school shouldnt I at least know a minimum about it?

Shaagas Aryeh is also Rabbi Kanarek's school.
Rabbi Bender's school is Ohr Yehuda.
There's a new school called Even Yisrael, I think. Rabbi Zelinger (who used to teach in Orchos Chaim) opened it 2 years ago.
Talmud Torah Bais Avraham - I think chassidish
Masores Avos - chassidish
Toras Emes (520 James St)
Toldos Yaakov Yosef Skver
Bais Hatorah (Rabbi Kanarek took over)

Does anyone know if shaagas aryeh is similar to toras aharon? Do they also stop having woman English teachers very early on? In general what type of yeshiva is it?

Neither school has female teachers (IIRC R' Kanarek was told by the Manchester Rosh Yeshiva not to have female teachers).
I have a few family members who send to shragaas Aryeh. They are very happy. Its a very warm school. As example: The principal greets the boys by name as they get off the bus in the morning. They get a personal birthday wish from the principal on their birthday. Rebbeim are warm and creative. I remember hearing that when one boy started learning something new the rebbe brought in a musical instrument and the class had their own pretend hachnasas torah parade.
Could be the teachers and rebbeim in shraagas aryeh are younger then in Toras Aahron, but from what I've heard they are excellent.
Both schools translate chumash into yiddish.
