I can also quote sites that say it's safe.

According to the research that I've done, it's perfectly fine as long as the source of the milk uses clean, sanitary methods of milking and bottling the milk. The health benefits of raw milk are huge, and I've seen the effects first hand.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course. Which is why I always ask permission from parents before giving raw milk to their kids.

Drinking raw milk is neither a health risk nor illegal.
I'm far more concerned about a neighbor hearing me yell at my kids than someone seeing me feed them raw milk.
That being said I always ask permission from a parent before giving any of my childrens' friends raw milk. Thought it's probably one of the healthiest thing they've ever had Wink , it's still the right thing to do.

Yes, it is a health risk. One story:

I really don't give a hoot what you choose to feed your kids. But the smugness of your comments about the nutritional value of what other people, feed their kids is so irritating that I feel, the need to point out that children die from what you think is nutritious.

I can post links to articles about death caused by contaminated cantaloupe. Does that mean that cantaloupe is unsafe food and should be illegal to sell? I mentioned in my original post that the source of the milk has to be a clean, sanitary dairy. If so, I maintain it is one of the healthiest foods you can feed your children.

Sorry but you can scrub cantaloupe. And you peel it. Can you do either with milk?

Didn't read through the thread so maybe this was mentioned. But is it more dangerous than letting your kid lick the cake batter that has raw eggs in it?
Asking because I honestly want to know.

People are mandated reporters only re their job, not private life. As stated above. Also, no one is asked to report cultural differences. Just abuse or suspected abuse.

I suspect that mandated reporting and reporting in general is much more part of the French than US system, if anything, since childcare is government subsidized, and medicine is socialized, and there is much more of a welfare state and socialist govt outlook in general.

(THe milk issue as evidenced here is clearly not considered abuse, but PSA for you if you do end up moving to the US, unpasteurized milk is not part of American culture or cuisine like it is French or European culture and cuisine. Google it or let it go.)

in some cultures, leaving small children home alone is considered perfectly normal. Or letting a young child walk home alone. I have seen parents from other countries do both these things, but no local parent would ever do them.

OT but...
I actually agree with some free-range principles... Like teaching kids how to be safe and leaving them alone WHEN I feel they are ready. I hate that there are laws out there about "kids must be 12 (or whatnot) to be home alone" or walk home... Rolling Eyes
My mom knew I was a mature and responsible child and was left with a younger sibling at home when I was 10 or younger. In some states that's illegal and a CPS case. It should depend on how mature the child is. There are teenagers out there who were so coddled they can't do anything for themselves. What to do in an emergency, how to get help, what is safe etc. if you never let them stretch their wings and you tell them there are bogey-birds under every nest----they will never fly.
(Reasonable fears like don't walk away with a stranger is one thing. Telling them all adult men are potential predators is another. Not entrusting them to take their own medication that they take on their own every day is crazy. Like asthma meds-my school wanted all students to turn in all meds. What was I to do if I had an asthma attack? Cross the giant building, go down 3 flights of stairs and hope the secretary was at her desk. Like she was a nurse or even CPR trained. So I hid my inhaler. A kid in Canada a few years ago died because he was not allowed to carry his inhaler in school. )

I became VEGAN about two months ago and according to the little bit of research I've done I came across this idea:

Humans are the ONLY species on the planet that drinks the mothers milk of another species.

The only other time this happens in the animal world is in an extreme situation like a Lioness finding an orphaned infant wolf and feeding the abandoned baby wolf.

Milk in the USA is filled with growth hormones and all kind of garbage-read The China Syndrome or Forks over Knives. Educate yourselves before you cast stones at this poor imamother.

That being said... OP, WHY are YOU giving your child raw milk?
Educate yourself and find out WHY the USDA had made it illegal to sell consumers raw milk.

Cows are fed terrible things--at one point when Mad Cow disease was a problem it was discovered that some farms were grinding up the Mad Cows and FEEDING IT TO HEALTHY COWS.

Cows are Herbivores.
Cows are NOT cannibals.

At any rate, I am NOT attempting to persuade anyone to become vegan, in fact Im not sure how long I will last with all the yummy brisket and french roast I've been feeding my family and friends... But for today I'm trying to be healthy.
AND FYI I am down THREE dress sizes...
Yep.

I don't think people were "casting stones" at her desire to feed her kids healthy food. I think people were reacting to her choice of HOW she made her decision. (Even knowing the farm doesn't stop e-coil or listeria or a bunch of other seriously sickening bugs from getting in your milk). If she decided to be vegetarian, vegan, organic only, the one when you eat fish but no chicken/meat.... We wouldn't have an issue. And the government wouldn't so long as the children were fed, healthy and getting all the nutrients. But this choice she made could sicken or KILL her kids. Shouldn't we let her know that is a real possibility?
