A large amount of milk (think half a gallon) spilled onto my carpeted floor. How do I take care of this? Do I let it sink in? How do you ensure that it doesn't spoil and smell up my whole house?

Try to soak it up with a towel. Really apply pressure and make sure you get as much up as you can. You don't want wet carpet padding underneath thatvwillsot nd get moldy. Then wash with carpet cleaner. Make sure it dries completely.

if it were really a lot, I would have a pro come in and look at it. you definitely want to prevent the padding from getting wet

That happened in my car, stank for 2 years. I tried baking soda, pet cleaning products, you name it.

I recommend a professional carpet cleaner. They may have better cleaning options. If the carpet isn't expensice and you can replace it for little $$$, maybe do that.
