It seems that my appetizers always have the longest prep times. Im having guests the next couple of weeks and I don't have time or energy to make my usual foods (stuffed peppers, bourekas...). Does anyone have good ideas that aren't salad based?

Thanks!

sushi salad??

For shabbos lunch I make brown rice baked in the oven - mix with oil, soy sacue, garlic powder. Diced cucumber and avocado (I think the recipe is from Binah magazine) .

And serve with Diced salmon lefover from Friday night.

If you want to be really fancy you can can make carrot and cucumber ribbons.

Wow! What a beautiful display! Can you post a dressing / marinade that works well with the salmon.

I typically make a teryiki marinade - teryiaki sauce and brown sugar.
I serve it Friday night plain and then use the leftovers to make the a 'sushi' salad.

Baking the rice in a pan instead of boiling it I find makes it much easier.

this is the dressing they recommend for the salad But I've never done it. Sometimes I just dribble some soy sauce on the rice. I always skip the nori.

I find that skipping appetizer course is easiest of all! We all eat way too much on Shabbos, no one has ever missed it

I know you said no salads - but what about a salad with chicken\meat or fish?

You can use Q&K's sausage bites recipe
-2 lbs. sausage or hot dogs, cut into 1-inch pieces
-1 cup ketchup
-1/3 light brown sugar, packed
-1/4 cup bourbon
-1 large onion, chopped (or 1/2 bag frozen chopped onions)

Preheat oven to 350.
Place meat in a 9x13 pan with ketchup, brown sugar, bourbon, onions and water. Mix well to coat.
Bake, uncovered, at 350 got 40 minutes. Serve with a toothpick in each piece.

Or yummy cocktail hot dogs in the slow cooker

Or KBD's saucy franks
-1 lb. mini cocktail franks or regular hot dogs, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 (12 oz.) jar red currant jelly
4 Tbsp spicy brown mustard

Place franks in a medium pot. Add currant jelly and mustard. Turn the heat to medium. Cook the hot dogs uncovered for 15-20 minutes, stirring to mix them with the sauce.
