thanx again for your replies. Part of the problem with acne is so many differing opinions. Hard to choose one plan. So many questions.
For now I'm going to hold off with edith. After more discussion with my son I see he's really not ready to deal with the pain(yet).
I'm going to put him on the prodermix or vitamins from nutri supreme (haven't decided which yet) He is already working on cutting out white flour and sugar.
I am going to try the acv on my own mild acne and see how that works. If I see improvements then I will pass it on to my son.
I don't think he'll b able to handle a "try this" "try that" method

Try this, try that is doomed to failure. You need to give anything a chance to work, which means at least 2 to 3 months.

Maybe keep trying with the doxycycline and either benzoyl peroxide of retin A if he's not having side effects.

I never had crazy acne, but the treatments didn't really work on me. Those who worked a bit made my skin so very dry. Accutane (roaccutane??) came with mandatory BC and threats of doom and gloom on liver in my times, I never looked into it more than that.

I tried vits, creams, gels, washings... leaving it alone was probably the most effective for smallest cost and shlep. LOL

Some do swear by Eau Précieuse, which is old like world http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/E.....ieuse (1890)

Antibiotics like minocycline often work in cases of severe acne. It can clear it up enough that topical treatments work.

I had severe acne and the only thing that helped was minocycline and then getting older. But male acne works differently.

BTW I tried Edith. She did work, but very few teens are going to be able to keep up with the regimen. I was about as motivated as a teen could be, but 45 min every night and 15 min every morning is too much. I did it for 2 days maximum.

I also had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in her stuffs, and they weren't straightforward to me about the ingredients. (it turned out to be horsetail herb, related to ragweed)

Antibiotics are pretty safe compared to accutane.

It might be worth bringing him to Dr. Eyal Levitt in Brooklyn. He is my son's dermatologist. He prescribed a very, very low dose of accutane, only 10 mg a day and it's working. Most doctors prescribe a much, much higher dosage and that's what causes the horrible side effects.

Dr. Levit's number is 718-375-7546

His web site is here: http://nyskinclinic.com/

It may be worth speaking to him.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Bec. of issues with mental health, my son is not a good candidate for accutane at all.

This is a source of kosher vitamins:

Some say to use hot or warm water for washing acne.

But cold water can be much better, I hear.

one of the reasons I'm asking is cuz looking into it now- I'm 24 yo with 2 kids & still have bad acne... if anyone has feedback on prodermix or any other probiotic- would love to hear. & if you had good experience with dermatologist specializing in acne in New York- would really appreciate your recommendation...

TIA
DESPERATE!!

Go off sugar and dairy. Thats what worked for me and I had terrible acne. I found that the dairy caused the pimples to develop and whenever I had anything sugary it would aggravate the acne and cause it to hurt and become red.

I wouldn't bother with this facial treatment option it sounds useless
if I were you I would take him to a dermatologist and acne is a lot of the time a hormonal issue. It is rarely to do with diet. The root cause of acne is an over production of hormones, and in many cases this can be controlled, however for a male the treatment option might be different, as they don't need estrogen.
I would suggest that you try an antiobiotic - there are plenty for acne. He should try to take the full course, you never know it might work.
also good diet, eliminating stress and vitamin d. Also, with age it will go away.
but do go to a dermatologist who can advise it won't do any harm.

I have a daughter who is very into health foods. she had mild case of acne & used raw honey & it worked. you leave it on the face for approx. 15 mins & wash off. also make a lemon or lime drink that he should drink first thing in morning before he eats anything - squeeze lemon/lime, add water & maple syrup. do the honey & drink every day.

Take him to a dermatologist, not a facialist. Accurate isn't the only treatment option that a dermatologist can offer and prescribe

My DS had it bad.

The dermatologist started him on a nightly cream called Tactuo, and the improvement was amazing, but in the end was not enough. He then prescribed a gel to be used alternately with Tactuo, and prescribed an antibiotic (related to tetracycline).

It's not very natural, but it is very effective.
