I want to name for a Michael, but my husband is not comfortable with it bc it is his brother's name. Anyway, we thought Mishael was a decent alternative. When I look up what Mishael means, besides the few times the name comes up in Tanach, I either get "Who is Like what God" is or "Borrowed"So my question is what is the real meaning. And if we do not use Mishael (it would be a middle name, by the way) what are other alternatives for Michael that are not Micha???

This might be a stretch, but we say about the malach Michael that he is "on my right" - so, Binyamin.

Mishael is a really beautiful name. Have seen it explained as meaning
מי ששייך לא-ל.
Apart from that, what amazing yirat shamayim he showed in Sefer Daniel

Mishael is an old name, according to DD.
Moshe is a timeless name.
Meir, Maor both sound like chanuka names.
Moriel, Moorel.
Matanel.
Something altogether different that you might like is Elitov, meaning G-d is Good. Or Elimelech.

מלכיאל is phonetically similar.
Though I do think that Mishael is in fact a very good alternative because of the tie-in with Sefer Daniel in which the angel Michael is also conspicuously mentioned, several times in fact.

I know this is an old thread but we are considering Mishael. Love the name. But does anyone know a Mishael in the US?
