Bar mitzvah present idea (book)

(sorry, couldn't decide on a good category for this)

I'm looking to buy a book or set of books as a bar mitzvah present for a boy from an observant Conservative family. Something in English, not too yeshivish (Artscroll), fairly basic but still interesting.

Any ideas?
