My son is 12 and finds school boring. He is very bright. Every day he asks me if he has to go to school. Every day I tell him of course. Every day he begs to be allowed to stay home. Every day I have to push him.
Is there any way to motivate him to go without me pushing him? I am tired of arguing over something that should be a default. Obviously you need to go to school.
Why is he pushing me like this?
He has friends. He is successful in his learning. There are no problems in school. He just would rather stay home and read or play video games.

I have a rule in my house. If you stay home from school you must be sick, so you have to spend the day in bed. The only acceptable form of entertainment is music. (I did this recently to my 3 year old, after 10 minutes relaxing in bed she was ready for school)
Alot of kids need a day off. This should be a day that you plan in advance and have fun with your DC. Can you sit down and discuss that if he goes to school on-time for the next 2 weeks, you will spend the day in the mall, go out for lunch.... Its to bond, not to stay home and play video games.

Sometimes teens just want to argue. Don't engage.
