I need a stroller with the following qualifications:

1- must fit through a 21 inch doorway
2- must recline fully flat (not like the vista, for example which stays in chair form, just tilted back)
3- must be sturdier than a cheapo umbrella stroller

Do maclarens qualify? Not sure of the measurements but I can find out.

They're umbrella strollers but not cheapo.

Valco Snap and Valco Snap 4 -- 20.5 inches wide. A lot more sturdy than Maclarens. Not umbrella fold. 10" rear wheels. More than half the price of the Bugaboo Bee (but also way less versatile, and probably less sturdy).

The Uppababy G-luxe is a GREAT stroller and officially it's much sturdier than the classic umbrella stroller. I honestly never tried it,but ppl who own it love it. It's only 20" w and it lays flat.

You can find it on sale for 129.99 which is a great price

I love the bugaboo bee. A cheaper option might b le the new baby jogger stroller. Its called the vue I think. Its an umbrella stroller and the seat turns around so newborns can face the parents.

Check out the city versa. You can also get the bassinet attachment. Much cheaper than a bugaboo

city versa is 23" wide, so that won't help you (and you don't want that type of seat)

I have it and love it too! But it's my car carriage. Can't see it being a full time carriage. Seems too flimsy. Wheels to small to go over bumps well etc

The uppa baby vista is really big so don't know about the width requirement but you said when it's flat it's still in seat mode. Can't you adjust the foot rest to be flat too?

Peg Perego Pliko Mini
Cybex Onyx or Callisto
Inglesina Avio
Babyhome Emotion
Bumbleride Flite
Joovy Groove

All umbrellas that recline flat (or close enough to it for an infant), at varying price points. You won't find any standard strollers narrow enough, not that I've seen. Phil and Teds Dot is very compact, but still about 23".
