I need to find a narrow-pleated black uniform skirt in something like twill, cotton, soft wool? My 9th grade DD who has had sensory processing issues since she was young is in a school that has a very stiff uniform skirt. It is that "wears like iron" polyester.

She is so uncomfortable that she can not even put her hands down on her lap all day in school. Imagine how that would be.

The principal gives us permission to purchase a non-uniform skirt, as long as it conforms in style and color with the uniform skirt. Black, below the knee, pleats all the way around, about 1" wide pleats. Narrow waist band.

If you have any idea where to find such a skirt, please post or pm me.

Thanks.

Can it just be a decent material uniform skirt or are you looking for a pointe knit/t-shirt cotton type skirt?
And where are you located?

I would hope to find a skirt made of cotton twill, like chinos, or soft wool. It has to have some structure to blend in with the uniforms the other girls are wearing.

I don't think jersey would hold the pleats at all.

I am on the East Coast of the United States.

The knit uniform skirts by Gap and Old Navy are great but usually wide pleats and not long enough.
Examples

http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/.....s.jsp

Maybe you can alter one to suit your needs, or if you get stuck, consider custom making one at a tailor. You can have the material pleated at a sewing shop and them bring to tailor to create skirt.

I also want to send you hugs - I know what it is like have a child/ren with real sensory issues.

Try contacting fraylich the uniform store - sometimes they make the same skirt in different fabrics.

a few years back I ordered from Lands End. They were very soft, not stiff at all.

yes, the Land's End might be the closest match. I ordered a swatch, so hopefully DD will approve.

I will have to call & get the length measurements before I order a size. We had used Land's end when the girls were younger & had to order up in size to get the right length.

Will also check w. the Fraylic uniforms people. seems like this would be a niche in a niche market.

She is enjoying school ok. I think she will enjoy it more when she is more physically comfortable.
