I will be using the machine once a month to make 5lb challa and also use it to mix cakes often.
I can only buy one machine, which one to get???

You cannot make a 5 lb challah dough with the Kitchen Aid so you have no choice but to go with the Bosch.

thats what I was afraid of... but I cant find the bosch on sale on black friday

Bosch. I have both, I got the bosch and never use kitchen aid anymore. Bosch is totally fine for cakes and cookies and amazing for challa.

For over 35 years I only had a Kitchen Aid and then someone gifted me a used Bosch. For a while I used both, but then the Kitchen Aid died. I thought I'd miss it, but I don't and have no intention of replacing it. I'm very, very happy with just the Bosch. Originally I only used it for challah, but since the Kitchen Aid died, for everything. If my Bosch were to die now, I would definitely replace it.

Never used a kitchen aid.
LOVE LOVE LOVE my bosch.
I have the two bowl option (regular white and stainless steel for the 5 lb. of flour). Best wedding gift I got

Love my Bosch.
I dump in a 5 lb bag of flour, all ingredients, including the yeast and run for 10 minutes and it is done.
