So many people here have stated that their children are "starving" because the US government has insisted upon more nutritionally sound lunches. So, I was wondering how many of these kids really are "starving." Perhaps we need to fund a charity to feed imamother kids.

My kids eat breakfast, packed lunch plus a snack in school, snack (sandwich often) when they come home, and supper.

The us government regulates lunches in private schools? I thought the new policies would only apply to public schools...fill me in please. I am a us citizen but aren't living there currently, so I only half follow what's going on there.

the government will subsidize school lunches for children whose parents are within a certain low income bracket. However the meals must conform to certain standards in order to be part of the program.

A private school can be approved to serve these federally subsidized school lunches.

I didn't vote because there wasn't an option for other.

DD doesn't eat breakfast at home on school days because she just isn't hungry so early in the morning. I gave up trying to force her to eat and started sending a homemade muffin for her to eat for morning snack. I also send a fruit and a bag of crackers for her other snacks.

DD's school does not have a subsidized lunch program. Until this year we paid for school lunch twice a week and sent home lunch the rest of the time. This year I am pregnant and was not able to spend any time in the kitchen at the beginning of the school year so we paid for school lunch every day.

I serve a family dinner every night. I try to make something everyone will eat, but sometimes DD will opt for a yogurt or sandwich instead of whatever is on the menu.

On Shabbos DD gets 3 meals plus snacks. Sometimes on Sundays we eat more of a brunch instead of breakfast and lunch.

LOL Barbara, I hope you aren't serious.

My kids eat a decent breakfast at home, lunch in school (unless one bigshot in the class says eeeeew, in which case my kids won't be the nerds eating it), snack at morning and afternoon recesses, and supper at home. Sometimes an extra snack before bed.

Since this whole Mrs. Obama business my kids have been getting snack bags from the school during recess, as well as a fruit. She's not too bad IMHO. Wink

DD is in public school. If her school bus is running late she'll miss school breakfast. The only things she has for lunch that is kosher is fruit and a small yogurt.

When she gets home she eats pretty much non stop until bedtime. She's like a bottomless pit (and very petite for her age).

The good news is that if she is starving when she gets home, she's less picky about dinner, and it's easier to get protein into her. I insist she eats some protein and veggies before she can have any carbs.

My kids can technically eat breakfast in the morning (financially wise Wink) but usually are not ready. They get a baggie of cereal and/or granola bar in the car, but I'm not sure how filling it is.

Lunch they either get at school or from home. School lunch consists of a main, fruit, veggie, and milk/juice (if fleishig) I think. I have no idea how much of it they eat, but they also have choices if they don't like the main (tuna, cheese, etc). Sometimes we bring our own sandwiches from home because of standards we have.

Snacks they bring 2-3 for the day. Yogurt, applesauce, pretzels, dried fruit, nuts -- these are typical ones they choose from.

They come home and usually eat another snack at home before dinner.

Dinner I always make a fresh one, but they don't always eat it, depending on their tastes. One of my kids frequently has toasted challah with butter...
And one night my son was too busy reading to remember to eat supper (despite it being one of his favorite). And he needs to gain a lot of weight as he is skin and bones. But I can't blame it on anyone but himself Wink
