I am visiting Israel soon and need a cellphone for a few weeks.

The rates seem high. Does anyone know of a good plan for just a few weeks?

U can always buy a plan with golan and then just cancel it.
Short term rentals for everything will always b overpriced.

would you consider renting a phone or you want to take along your own?

golan.. they have a 35 shekel plan - unlimited minutes now and 10 shekel plan for less minutes (cant remember how many)
You can go to a cell gemach just to borrow the phone if you need for a few weeks.. or there must be some way to rent a phone.

I'm going to Israel in January and I need to rent a phone. My phone doesn't take sim cards so I need a phone itself. Any ideas?

Have you checked with TravCom? I believe they had pretty decent rates. See if you can google them.
