At a recent visit to a new OBgyn, I felt very uncomfortable with the way he was treating me, especially during the physical exam. Is there such a thing as reporting a dr. here?

A. Did you ask an attorney

B. Why would choose a male in the 1st place? Since creation of the world, this was midwife's job until greedy lusty OBs pushed them over. The tide is turning back, there are many court documents about OB misconduct,

Think1st - not sure where you live but on my kupah in Jerusalem the majority of the OB's that speak English are men. There are a few women dr's of course but they have longer waits and some don't have the best bedside manner. Also, it may be more convenient to go to certain male dr's based on location, hours, etc. I'm sure most women would PREFER a female to a male but that's not always possible here.

OP I had a weird experience with an ob when I was a kallah, he touched my chest as part of the exam...why does an ob need to touch the chest?? I think I've heard from others that this particular dr is a bit creepy I never went back to him but didnt even think to report him. I'm sorry you had that experience, not sure how you can go about that but just wanted to send a hug!

yes, in Israel the only way to see a midwife for prenatal/postnatal care is to pay out of pocket.

breast exam- checking for tumors c"v. not saying doctors can't do it in a creepy/inappropriate way and I've heard stories, but a breast exam is pretty standard.

I was also going to say that in the USA it is standard for the ob/gyn to do a breast exam.

Okay good to know it wasn't as creepy as I thought, I think he did give off a creepy air and before that point no one other than my pediatrician had ever checked me but that's good to know that it may be sort of standard (none of the other 3 I've been to have done it though, I wonder if it's standard here?)

Did he actually do something illegal (like rape you)? If it's just you're personally uncomfortable with him, what are you reporting? Switch doctors.

What are you talking about? I've been to 3 male OB's and 2 female. The male ones were all "perfect gentlemen". But you should know, there are a lot less female doctors so it's harder to get an appointment.
And a midwife isn't an OB. They're usually knowledgeable enough to deliver a healthy baby in a normal pregnancy (in Israel they do deliver the babies) but that has nothing to do with going to a Dr

OP, sorry, I got distracted. wanted to respond to your post. I also had a pretty bad experience with an OB exam in Israel. I didn't end up doing this (maybe I should have though), but you should be able to complain to the kuppah. I'm sorry this happened to you Sad

Me too. I think we had a thread like this a couple of years ago. Definitely complain in writing to the kupah. OP, would you be okay with PM'ing me with the first letter of his last name? I'm wondering if a bunch of women are having real problems with the same OB.

I don't think it's standard in Israel. But what does it mean he "touched your breast"? In America I took off my top and the Dr checked my breasts (felt for lumps). Is that what your Dr did? I never had a Dr in Israel do that but once I went to a Dr in Israel whose job is to just feel breasts. Lady after lady. That's what this guy does all day. Pretty weird.

in Israel OBs typically don't do it, breast surgeons do. it's recommended to get one done every so often (forgot exact intervals...I think it also depends on age and family history...)

First of all, this OP is from June. I wonder why it came up now as a thread.

But think1st, you are waaaaaaaaay out of line here. way out of line. Greedy lusty OBs? There are many OBs that are women and I am sure that not every midwife acts 100% pure.

Second of all, just like with any other doctor in life, you choose the doctor that you feel the most comfortable with for your needs. Personally, I now go to a male gyn as the female one that I went to previously had absolutely no bedside manner.

But what does greedy lusty have to do with anything? I think you, think1st, have to think about what you wrote!

Sorry to take away from the OP. I don't really remember exactly what he did (I kept my shirt on for sure) but I just remember thinking like 'that's not what I came for...' I had come for BC before the wedding not for an examination. BH it didn't traumatize me THAT much since I don't really rem.

This particular Dr last name starts with a Z (or maybe TZ), but I don't remember so clearly what happened so if you know what dr I'm referring to and you had only the best experience then I apologize for any mistake I might cause.

I guess a good rule of thumb for any Dr is to go by a personal recommendation of who people use (I've gotten good recommendations on here and on FB), and not just going to some one blindly.

To the mother who suggested writing to the kupah, have you done that? I can't imagine that being super effective. I think I'd try to get some one on the phone, with meuchedet you can get English speakers so you can try and find out if there's anything you can do.

Hugs again, it's hard to trust a dr and then feel violated in some way Hug Hug

What's weird about it? It's called a כירורג שד. I go twice a year to be checked and I'm very thankful that there are surgeons who specialize in breasts. My mother died at 39 because an incompetent ob/gyn missed a very large lump during a routine check up.

Just saw Shabbat's comment that this is from June, oops! I'm usually pretty good about checking that..oh well, I guess the second poster wanted to make a point.

Now we've gone onto another tangent Wink

I realize it's late for the OP, but she could still report it (and anyone with a bad experience from the past can still report it).

You need to write a letter and fax/mail/hand deliver it to the minahel(et) of the kupah. If you don't know who it is, ask the mazkirah. You can probably even report a doctor who doesn't work at your snif, but within the same kupah that way.

Its very kiday. I had a bad experience with a specialist and mentioned it to my GP, who said she had heard negative things from other patients, but upon checking with the minahelet, there was no complaint filed in writing, and so nothing was ever done.

Who set the standard? & why ? which perv wouldn't like to get paid for that? Are male hands better at detecting a lump???

I didn't think it's weird to check I just thought it was a weird thing to do all day. You know how you sometimes do something repetitively and then when you close your eyes at night that's all you see? Imagine this guy when he closes his eyes at night.
