I need to apply for a NYS Tax ID. I did some research online and have found some information but am wondering from people that have had experience if you can tell me what the process is like and what's the best way to go about it?
Also, what is the approximate time frame?

I just did this! I went through an agency called vcorp. They are in monsey. You pay them and they do everything for you. Within a day or two I had my tax id and was an LLC. Would def rec them!

What is the benefit of going through an agency over doing it yourself? Money is an issue....

Above poster is talking about something completely different. You do not need an agent or service to apply for a NYS sales tax ID or federal tax EIN. It should be pretty easy to figure out on the NYS website.

(You also can form, register and publish new LLCs, etc. On your own without using a service company, but that's another story).

Thank you. I need to form an LLC too and was looking into doing both together. Any info?

You can order it through V-Corp, but that may be more money than you are willing to spend. If you can DIY you'd probably save money.
