my 6 month old infant is at a stage where he cries hysterically unless he is held. I try to be with him as much as I can, but I need to make dinner/use the bathroom etc, so sometimes I let him cry for five minutes straight. That's ok, right?
When I pick him up, he calms down immediately.

I think that's fine. What's the alternative- never going to the bathroom? As long as you are loving and responsive the rest of the time, which I'm guessing you are if you're concerned about this. Smile

Oy. At 6 months, he can't be distracted for a few minutes in an exersaucer or jumper seat or something?

Try a baby carrier during food prep and just avoid frying things?

Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I've been guilty of wearing a baby in the bathroom but I realize not everyone is thrilled with that idea Wink

I do think that if at all possible he should be placed somewhere that he can see you, and you talk to him during that time.

You are doing okay.

Personally, I have a tendency to "explain and reassure" the baby. Mommy is putting you down now for a little, because I have to prepare supper. I will pick you up again in a few minutes. Maybe I am super lucky, but I find that it keeps the baby calmer.

Good luck!

I always entertained the thought of taking the baby with me to the bathroom, but it always felt weird to me. Smile Maybe will end up doing it one day, ya never know. Wink

Op here.

1. He is teething
2. He is very good natured... as long as me or dh are sitting next to him, lying next to him or holding him. But if I put him down to play on his own, he cries. It's not all day or every day, but it happens often enough.
