I never heard of this, but I've been having fun googling. Here are some alleged substitute ideas. I say alleged because according to wiki the results might be different.

My mother had a neighbor who sent home made Wafer Cake for Mishloach Manos, and it was amazing.
If anyone has an easy t follow recipe, please post.
Im thinking that the paper thin dough may be the same dough that youd use for a "Cocoash", maybe, just youd be rolling out a few equal size sheets of it, putting filling in between and then a chocolate glaze on top.

Cocosh cake dough, will grow to much, I think
layers have a, certain crispiness that you need the right dough for

My fraternal grandmother made this (Polish) with flat soda bread. Jews make it with the soda bread and the Xtian Poles made it with oblaten for Easter.
