I highly doubt that its CHOP since that is in Philadelphia. There are plenty of closer ones, though CHOP is a high level children's hospital.

you can put their address into google maps and do "find nearby" for the nearest hospital.

for instance in brooklyn miamonides is the first one. it isnt the top in every division but on a regular basis its great. if you want something specialized in any bone or joint pp in brooklyn go to joint disease. mount sinai is for high risk pregnancies and others. columbia is prob. for complicated diseases not sure. get what I mean? I just want to know what hospitals pp use for regular emergencies, for maternity, not that ihave had anthing to worry right now just need to know which hmo to choose so need to know whats a good hospital.

Brick is probably the closest to that neighborhood, unless maybe Kimball in Lakewood, which is on Rte 9. But it depends what level care you need.

Jersey Shore (Neptune) and Monmouth Medical (Long Branch) are probably considered more high-level, but Kimball is now part of Monmouth, called Monmouth-South

Sometimes you just need the patient to be stabilized and transferred.

Generally, the best thing is to talk to the Bikur Cholim people. They can advise you in each circumstance. And, of course, Hatzalah also makes that judgement if to go to the closest or to a more high-level place.

You're asking what people usually do? I would assume if it's a real emergency ch"vsh, you'd call Hatzalah and they'll take you to the right place.

If you are talking about maternity, first choose a doctor/practice that you like, and you would then use the hospital they are affiliated with. If you prefer a certain hospital, then I guess you can take that into consideration when choosing your doctor.

Many used Kimball. Due to the fact that they were losing a lot of money on uninsured women, they closed their maternity dept.

For those who can't make it to another hospital, they would probably deliver in the emergency room & transfer to Monmouth.

Any of you gals want to start an Ezras Nashim in Lakewood to handle women's emergencies?

Dr Shanik does usually send children to CHOP, but it is not close, it's about an hour away. It really depends what your medical issue is. Like someone else said, the closest hospitals are Brick or Kimball in Lakewood, neither one is a great hospital, but they may be what you need if you just need to be in a hospital quickly. The closest high level hospital is Jersey Shore, so Dr Shanik sends a lot of patients there. It really depends what the problem is and who he thinks is the best specialist who accepts your insurance.

I know that Dr. Shanik refers people to CHOP if they need a specialist. I don't know if Dr. Shanik himself has gone - it's really far. We were referred there, not for inpatient, but to see a specialist. I don't know if it's different for serious cases of in situations where they would need Dr. Shanik there.
