When I wash dishes, a little bit of water usually gets on the floor. I step in it as I walk and then my floor gets all yucky (dirty/footprinty) from my shoes. Any advice how to make it that the floor stays dry or that my shoes don't make tracks/dirt?

A mat, a big shmatta.... put it down near the sink, and then before you walk away quickly wipe up any drops. Simple.

A kitchen mat/rug with a non-skid latex backing to prevent slips. Make sure it is machine washable too.
Best to get one with a flat weave or low pile.
I just ordered two new ones (the backing on my old ones had disintegrated) and had my father bring them from the States. They are really indispensable for preventing the floor getting mucked up.
