I see a lot of advertisers offering to buy your miles and then have another company or so that sell airline tickets etc. using your miles that you just sold them. Are they allowed to do this?
Just wondering after the issue that was discussed a couple of week ago regarding some Amex customers had hundreds of Amex cards.

According to the strict letter of the terms and conditions of the airlines that issue the miles, you're not allowed to resell them, and if you get caught, they can confiscate your remaining miles and shut down your account. American is known to be the strictest with this. Practically speaking, many people do sell miles, and the reputable brokers know how to do it without getting caught. This also only applies to airline miles; I think that selling points (Starwood, AMEX, Chase) is easier.
