can I watch a dvd on a laptop? there's a space to put one in - but how do I watch it ?

You may need to install a program like "PowerDVD" to play it

Yes you can. You just need a program to play it. Usually Windows comes with Windows Media Player installed, which should be able to. Otherwise you can go to download.com and get a free program, just as VLC Media Player, that can do it.
