We just bought a new machine a kitchen aid. My dh toiveled it and one piece fell in the mikvah. He was able to get it out a few days later but it has white stuff around it that doesn't come off. Not sure what it is or if it's still usable health wise. Anyone know?

Is it a metal piece? How does this piece function? IF it does not touch food there is for sure no problem. Chlorine corrodes metal, so lying in a chlorinated pool for a few days may cause surface discoloration or pitting. The part may have been coated with a thin coating of another metal that was eaten away by the chlorine. Have you tried scouring the part with steel wool? If it's a plastic piece, it's been bleached by the chlorine. Call the customer service number in your owner's manual and tell them the part fell into a chlorinated pool and remained there a few days before anyone noticed, and ask them if it's safe to use. My guess would be that it's only discolored and perfectly safe to use, but ask the experts.

Just to add, a new piece may be available at a reasonable price, if necessary.

Thanks. It's the beater piece that you use to whip up whip or egg whites. The top part of it is all white and won't come off
