OP, don't forget to research tuition costs. Day schools can be very expensive.

ROCHESTER NY is a very warm community, people are very friendly, cost of living is very low, the quality of life is great. really nice place to raise a family, it is also at hour plane ride form nyc, or 5 1/2 hour drive. there are 2 schools, a girls high school and a yeshiva/kollel. there are other threads on it. all in all, great place.

Do not forget to look any prospective town or city up on Wikipedia, print it out, and think about it.

Look at the city's weather right now - some places you would not think of as cold are cold now. It may not last, of course. Google will tell you that in a minute.

Remember to be a fan of air conditioning if you are moving someplace warm. Those places can get extremely hot, for four months at a time. The locals think nothing of it, but be aware. Some heat is wet and some heat is dry; it's all hot. You can't be outside for very long. So people stay in the air conditioning.
