So DH and I want to rent a car but we only have a debit card linked to my checking account. Thank G-d we have sufficient funds but just never got a credit card.
So I'm considering getting a card just because we really want to rent a car and it appears you cannot rent with a debit- only credit...Thing is we wana book asap but I know it takes time to apply and receive the card. Any way I can get the number of my cc upon ordering? Or does anyone know an alternative to booking a rental car

Call your regular bank or credit union and see what they can do to help you.

In my experience they won't give you the CC# up front (and it wouldn't help you since you can't activate it until you receive it), but you can often get them to overnight it to you at no cost if you explain that you need it ASAP. American Express has been particularly generous in doing so. Apply today, and you could have it tomorrow.
