Does anyone know about L.A. if they have a chassidish community, and any other info. would be appreciated.

la has a very large chassidishe community- including cheder, shuls, minyanim, mikva etc..
but, housing prices are very high. if you want to live near a shul in los angeles it'll be at least a million. no I am not exaggerating. we plan on moving there in a few years and are saving a big down payment iy"H. if you are planning on renting or buying a town house or something like that it'll be a little cheaper.
day schools are also $$$, when our kid is in 1st grade iy''H it'll be $16,000 a year just for him!

Just to comment on one city mentioned - Philadelphia is affordable if you live in Rhawnhurst. In Lower Merion, absolutely not.

South Bend, Indiana is also an extremely low cost frum community. It's currently about 90+ frum families and growing.
It has a private day care, a day school, Bais Yaakov high school, boys yeshiva, women's mikvah, and kosher deli/grocery store. (Also kosher soft serve...)
Housing is very low cost. A large home will be averaging less than $ 200,000 and can be as low as $50,000 (sometimes less, no joke).
They recently got approved on the govt program that helps pay tution as well.
No clue why South Bend missed the affordable frum communities list!! Exclamation

Funny, I now live in Detroit but I have lived in Cleveland, Buffalo, and Louisville, KY and my daughter lives in Pittsburgh. Not only housing is cheaper in these cities but at least in some of these places, you don't need lots of money to compete in terms of how expensive your smachot are or how fancy your baby stroller is or if your kids wear designer clothes. In Cleveland there was more of an "in" crowd like Greenie said.

Cincinnati, OH has a lovely community with 5 different orthodox shuls (everything from Yeshivish black hat over modern machmir, open ortho and Chabad), a florishing kollel, day schools and VERY affordable housing. Very warm community, very welcoming and nice.

Just a little shout out from LA

Our child is starting yeshiva high school next year and tuition will be $30,000-$32,000

NOT a joke.

LA is obnoxiously expensive. NO homes in LA are less that a million near a shul.

There are a few homes in the valley for a little less than a million.

Depends on the school. YULA definitely. Others? Not quite. BYLA isn't 30,000. Yeshiva Hi Tech isn't. Bnos Esther isn't. Ok, I know mostly girls schools but girls schools tend to be more $$ than boys (exception of YULA boys which is the same as YULA girls. The most $$ option). And for housing it depends. There are duplexes bigger than houses so some buy one level. Or rent but they are huge. I know soMeone who raised a large family in one it was that big! It also depends on if you are willing to go 2 blocks past the imaginary "frum line". Like the 600 N block in La Brea or past 3rd. You can still walk to many Shuls- it just isn't the hub.

Big problem with this, is that they exclude great communities just because they are all Orthodox and not reform or conservative or not have both of them.
Scranton makes the list, definitely.

Scranton has every criteria listed and was not on the list of 50 cities. So it cant be a complete list!
