Can I leave cooked rice out of the fridge for many hours? It is instant rice, cooked in water with nothing else added.

How many hours? I've definitely done a few with no ill effect. Not always intentional. Sometimes like cooked on erev Shabbos and not put away until after the meal which can be late if we put the kids to bed in middle. I don't even know how instant rice exists but can't imagine it's much different than regular rice.

Probably about 6 hours. I don't think cooked rice goes bad, but it's so ingrained in me not to leave food out that I feel funny doing it.

Definitely definitely not.
Sorry, but I'm passionate about this
If you google, you'll see that there are bacteria in rice that can become problematic if it's left out of the refrigerator for too long. Several hours is definitely too long!!!
Trust your gut (ha ha) feelings. They have saved you!

Rice has a high sugar content so it's a breeding ground for bacteria. Not a good idea.

Thanks everyone. I guess it's going in the fridge. I really don't like cold rice rewarmed, but rice is what the fasters want for tonight's pre-fast supper and I have to work all day.

I would've thought it's ok, but also read recently about rice being a problem.
To Olive oil, if sugar is a problem, why is it used in fruit jams and why are cakes less perishable than other foods?.
