I got a Shark Navigator Lift Away and couldn't be happier. It's lightweight, affordable, good for those with allergies, easy to clean, easy to use, swivels, can use upright or as a canister, has great suction...

I just got a Miele Olympus and I am very happy with it. It's lightweight, easily maneuverable, great suction. It's a bit pricey, but I hope to be able to use it for many more years.

Forgot to mention 5 year warranty and no need to replace any parts.

I'm using the shark too. I like it a lot.
However, it doesn't feel like a very strong piece. I feel like the material is made cheaply (versus the real expensive ones), but I may be pleasantly surprised! I recently bought it.
For the price I paid, it's pretty good.
Btw I purchased it on Kohls.com with some great coupons. It came out cheapest there so check your options.
