If you live in a multi-tenant building, you may never get rid of them all. The good news is, there's a way to keep them out of your unit.

Go to a garden store and look for a deer or garden critter repellent that comes in granules. It's not poison, it's sprinkles that are imprinted with the scent of natural predators. People can't smell the animal scent, to me it smells a bit like the peppermint oil that they add. Shake Away Rodent Repellent is what I use in my garage.

Open up your light switches, electrical outlets, and heating vents. Anywhere that you can get down inside the walls, and then drop a few tablespoons into each opening, and then seal them up again. Sprinkle liberally behind the stove, refrigerator, and anywhere else you might think they're hanging out. Behind furniture that's up against the wall is good too, just to be sure.

It's safe for kids and pets, and makes the mice scared to nest anywhere that they can smell the granules. The sprinkles last for 4 to 6 months before you have to redo them, and it's CHEAP. No mice will move in from next door, and dead mice in your walls, either.

(If you have pet hamsters, this is NOT a good idea, as they will be a nervous wreck. shock )
