I have 2 bat mitzvahs coming up. I have no clue what to get as presents. Don't want to spend too much but also dont want to be too cheap. I'm friendly with the parents, not super close though.
If it makes a difference I live in the NY area.
Please throw out some ideas!!
Thanks!

Amazon gift cards are always good. Books are expensive!
If the girls have their ears pierced, earrings are always a welcome gift, especially in sterling silver or gold fill (less chance of allergies).
My DD is doing a mitzvah project, so she wants all of her presents to be donations to http://israelguidedog.org , and she'll get a small amount of money from her family for her to pick out a few goodies for herself.

My favorite gift that my daughter got was a jewelry tree. Not exactly tree, it stands up and is flat. Places to clip on her earrings, hang necklaces and bracelets... Jewelry is a terrible gift unless you know a specific item and it can be exchanged.
A bean bag for sitting in is popular. Or a husband pillow for sitting up in bed reading. A pocket siddur covered in leather with her name.
I've had 2 daughter Bat Mitzvaed and those are the only gifts that stand out in my mind.

You're raising a daughter with special midos. Lots of nachas!

Adina- my design sketchbook. I am a big fan of this book. The author is one of us. My daughter loves the book and it is well priced.
