How do I go about getting one? Do I call my travel agent? Or do I go directly with the company (which one)?
Tia!

I suggest bringing an unlocked phone from home and getting an Israeli SIM once you get here. It will be cheaper than renting from a company.

Some phones are locked into the data plan you buy them with. If it's unlocked it just means you can use it with other SIMs. If you just take along an old phone that a few different people have used you know it's unlocked, or you can get it checked at a phone store. In Jerusalem there are a million phone stores that will sell you a cheap SIM and data plan.

A lot of companies are offering the first 3 months free and no contract. I think Golan Telecom is one of them. If your phone is unlocked and GSM ready, you can have a sim card mailed to an address of your choice and waiting for you there, and just pop it in when you get there.

There are companies that will email you a SIM in the US too. It works a little differently. You pay for the SIM (I think $20 which is really a rip off) and then you activate it for only the dates you want and pay for those date for unlimited calls and data. You can get it in the US and put it into your unlocked phone and have it ready to go when you arrive. I used travel2israel.com

If you want a phone that you can use to call your hosts in Israel and also people from home maybe you should call your American cell company and see what kinds of international plans they offer.

borrow a phone in the airport, have a golan sim sent to where you'll be staying. It includes 1 or 2 foreign numbers and obviously an Israeli number. All calls to the 38 (or however many) countries are free.
talknsave is really expensive.
