Hi Yall
We are an out of town shul and we don't have any kind of membership. We are slowly growing and I'm wondering if I should suggest that there be membership.
My question is what are the pros and cons of membership?

Just wondering, if your shul has done ok until now, why would you want to add that to the community now?

How are you paying the mortgage, the rabbis salary, programming, maintenance etc?

In terms of what membership includes, ours includes almost nothing. We get a $200 or so credit towards something shul related (high holiday seats, the annual dinner, events), but otherwise we don't actually get anything out of it. Oh, a mishloach manot from the shul on Purim? We pay membership because we use the facilities, we daven in the minyan, we go to the events, and they need money to upkeep the space and pay the staff (including rabbis). I don't think shul membership should be a "what do I get out of it?" situation.
If you decide to add membership, start with a very low rate at least in the beginning. I don't think people will be as receptive if you suddenly tack on $500+ per family membership.
