Within the last half hour before Shabbos the inevitable 'I'm hungry' song begins. Confused They've been snacking on cake the past few weeks but I'm really unhappy about it.

Please share your healthy snack ideas that are practical for Erev Shabbos and filling.

Thanks in advance Very Happy

maybe they need to eat lunch later or eat dinner earlier? anyone who eats a lot of cake really needs a small meal like half a sandwich. cake is not a good snack for anyone.

Potato kugel's the after school snack. The hardboiled eggs are for closer to Shabbos. Along with cake, I'll admit.

I make extra potato kugel and sometimes when they're extra hungry I offer some schnitzel on the side(I make extra for that purpose)
On the weeks that I make an extra kugel like pinneapple or butternut squash I give them a small slice.
Yes, they don't eat so much by the meal but I have come to terms with that, better to fill up on food than snacks.

I always cook more than what I need for shabbos, we can have soup, chicken, rice or kugel, as a snack.

My kugels are referred to as erev shabbos kugels. Especially potato kugel. Everybody loves it on erev shabbos, and whats left for shabbos is usually left after shabbos too.

Normally an apple or another piece of fruits, if not vegetable sticks with hummous will stave off hunger. In winter, I let the children have bowl of chicken soup with veggies--staves off hunger but they are usually ready to sit down for proper dinner as it doesn't fill up too much.

I serve either kugel, schnitzel- I fry extra on purpose or soup. My kids are little and used to eating dinner early and on short fridays I never have time for lunch so I usually just sample as I finish up in the kitchen.

My kids eat the kugel and chicken before Shabbos (hot, straight from the oven-Yum!). By the time we get to the main course Friday night, no one's in the mood of eating that anyway. Very Happy

chicken soup. Or lately pomegranates (which have been in season). I quarter a pomegranate and they pick out the seeds. So not only is it a snack, it's an activity too!

I started making Franks and blanks. Easiest and kids love em! I buy the large flaky dough squares, and just roll one hot dog in each, slice em into 5, Easy as pie! Bake 375 for maybe 20 min.
