Can someone explain the difference between 4/4t/5/5t/small/x-small to me? How do I organize this clothing?

4 is smaller than 4t which is smaller than 5 which is smaller than 5t. Small and xs could mean anything.
Are they old clothes going into storage?

its very hard.

What I started doing is once I was past 3T, I started putting the boxes together based on cleaning out the drawers and not what the tags say.

I would do something like: all the winter clothing my child wore that year goes into same box/bag regardless of what tag says because each company runs differently. I would check to see what majority labels say and label it according to that size. some companies write xs or s along with the size in numbers. but childrens place has size 4 for xs and old navy xs is way bigger. go figure. good luck.

Store the 4 and 4T together with the XS.
Store the 5 and 5T together with the S.

I would just like to clarify that 4T is smaller than 4, 4 is many times equivelant to 5T, which is smaller than 5.

No, this is actually trying to organize my kids' current clothes. My boys are 18 months apart and almost the same size, but one is obviously taller. Being that they are so close in size I'm trying to figure out who gets what and to maximize what I have for them.

Thanks Amelia Bedelia, that seems to make the most sense.
