I lost mine (household mismanagement lol). Has anyone had this and gotten theirs replaced?

I tried looking up the appropriate agency online. It costs a lot of money and I'm still not sure exactly how to go about it. I would appreciate clear instructions on how to get it done. Thank you.

Edited to clarify: I am a naturalized American citizen and need info on getting the document that proves it.

You don't have an actual passport yet?

I thought that an expired passport can still be used as proof of citizenship. I may be wrong, but it is worth checking it out.

When your passport expires, you send it in and get a new one. No other documents are necessary.

Really? I didn't know that. That's great news.

I used to use my passport as my id. It was still in maiden name. When it expired I was left with no id whatsoever. I wanted to get a non-drivers license or something... But I only have an Israeli birth certificate (translated) and now I have no proof of citizenship. To get the certificate (which serves as a birth certificate for naturalized citizens) would cost me upwards of $300, if I understood the redtapese on the Homeland Security website.

Walking around with my passport is not the greatest idea, anyway.

I'm gonna try getting a new passport and an id using the expired passport + marriage license.

Unfortunately I see that's only true if the passport was issued when I was 16 or older. I was younger.
