If not, do you think it would work to freeze the soup sans barley, and then add in barley separately after thawing? Any suggestions? Thank you!

I make a huge mushroom barley soup (with flanken, similar to this recipe http://www.busyinbrooklyn.com/.....toup/), freeze it in smaller containers, and add fresh barley in addition each time I heat up the soup. (Because the original barley turns soft) it tastes really good together and is a wholesome healthy easy addition to a meal.

Mine freezes well. I always have to add some water after I defrost it because it ends up being too thick otherwise.
