OK, starting a new thread because the first thread on this topic is focusing on fleishigs.

Hubby and I prefer to eat milky/parev before a fast. However we're not makpid on seudah shlishit, so I don't have much experience of making this even for a regular Shabbat.

What would be good to make for right before the fast (bearing in mind need to hydrate etc.)? For 17th Tammuz we went with a large boiled-egg-and-tuna salad and pre-cut fruit, but that can't have been enough as I was in bed exhausted/dehydrated by the next afternoon...

We have a hotplate on a timer (so could heat up 'dry' food), but no milky/parev crockpot so soup is out.

Thanks :-)

Studies show that carbs and fat are good before a fast.
A nutritionist told me this is when you have your pasta!

I'm also having trouble. We serve baked ziti and chunky veggie soup before fasts. Neither of them can be heated up this year.

Basil rolls are like garlic knots with a basil topping. I grind basil with oil salt and garlic and spread on the rolls before I bake them some pple spread the mixture when they come out of the oven

My kids (the fasting ones) won't eat pasta salad, and aren't big bread fans. They also don't eat fish... The hard boiled eggs should work well.

Aloo samosas with hari chutney, vegan bahn mi, spicy cole slaw, vegan chicken salad wraps, barley salad and blue berry pie. I do not do soups at this time of year.

One year when it fell out this way we had salmon room temp and a grain salad with cheese.

I think this year I might do something similar and possibly a home made pizza.

Isn't baked ziti solid enough that it could be put on the plata? And maybe veggie soup would be okay in the crockpot through Shabbos, I've done it before with lentil soup.
