There is a sale on 52 inch wide gray stretch linen-rayon blend that looks arty and interesting to me. You would pre-wash and dry it to shrink it, then, carve it into something interesting such as a skirt. The look would be brut, paper-baggish, artful Amish, Soho, or just plain a nice linen garment. I don't think it needs to be lined. It's an 8 oz fabric. The stretch is intriguing. You would gather it slightly, here and there for textural interest. Think sculpture.

OK. Yes, dry cleaning might keep it smooth longer.

But it's expensive.

Once you have machine washed and dried a fabric, any garment you make out of it can take the same treatment; which is much easier and cheaper.

But you do have a point, for those who can afford it.

This is already a nubby fabric. Perhaps it could take washing.
