I have the opportunity to away for a few days in August, for literally the first time ever.
I'm trying to figure out where to go. Here are some of my requirements and some of my preferences. Please let me know if you have any suggestions - thanks!
I plan to stay in a hotel with an outdoor pool and do a lot of swimming and relaxing. I don't need actual hotel suggestions - I can research that myself - just suggestions of places which fit my description.
1. It needs to be accessible by public transport - train or bus - from NY. I don't really want to travel more than 4-5 hours.
2. I prefer somewhere less touristy and crowded. I am not a big fan of the beach, so that should help. But I do like pretty scenery, so somewhere near a river, lake or an otherwise picturesque setting would be ideal. I'm also hoping that staying away from the more popular areas will get me a better price on a decent hotel.
3. Does not need to be near shuls or kosher food. I will bring my own food.
So basically, I'm looking for somewhere I can get to on a train or bus, where I can stay in a hotel, go for some nice walks, maybe a couple of interesting things to do nearby (not necessary, but a plus), where it will be quieter and less crowded.
Any ideas?!
Thank you all in advance!

The Finger Lakes sounds like what you're looking for in terms of setting, just not sure about transportation options. Also look into the Berkshires or Southern Vermont.

quieter areas around lake George - like saratoga springs and others. Just not sure if it is accessible without a car.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Going to go look into them now and see which one seems like the best fit.
