I would like to take my kids to Manhattan for the day- any suggestions for attractions and amusements that would go over well with 7-10 year olds?

According to the National Park Service:
The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island, federal property administered by the National Park Service, located within the territorial jurisdiction of the State of New York.
(Just sticking up for my city!)
FAO Schwarz before it closes for good

Governor's Island would be perfect! Cheap boat ride (I think $2), rent bikes (might be free if you get there early), ride around and do free mini golf. Last year there was a kosher pop-up stand on Sundays. Also Central Park boating, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, go to the top of the Freedom Tower (expensive), Sony Wonder Land is free. Walk the Highline - free and fun. Also check out mini golf on Pier 25.
