The hand-me-down/secondhand thing is so interesting. I have friends who are genuinely lower income that whisper about getting clothing from the gemach. Naturally, their kids don't feel great about it. Meanwhile, over in my corner of the woods where our most immediate friends do a lot better income wise, the kids themselves discuss who would like which hand-me-downs and pass around with their friends with great excitement. I think they realize that they get better clothing and more variety of clothing because of this arrangement. I sometimes have to remind my daughter that she should not "call" other friends clothing. She also loves to put together care packages for her friends. Twin friends get matching and coordinating pieces. She makes piles by styles, this for Sarah, this for Rivka, this for Leah.
It is all about attitude!
