DD, 10, started new school and with it returned her night terrors/sleep walking that I thought she outgrew already... Anybody has any advice? I ordered valerian root - what is a safe but effective dose for children?
Please help - I want to sleep!!!
P.s. She seems happy and excited about school but she is generally a very emotional child

My DD sleepwalks and talks when she is overtired. Her brain seems to go into a deep stage that is not usual to her patterns.
Try getting your DD to bed an hour earlier, with some books and music. I think she needs more time to unwind and process her day. She may also want to spend more time talking to you about school, but not know how to start. I lead in with "What was the best thing about your day today? What was the worst thing? What did you like best about the best thing?"
Pause between questions, listen, and always end the conversation focusing on the GOOD. Just letting it out can make a big difference. Just asking "How was school?" is not an effective way of doing that, as it is too vague for most children to answer effectively.
