We will be doing a full tonsillectomy / adenoidectomy soon with Dr. Dolitsky soon because the symptoms have not resolved 100%.
The research study has a very tiny sample, so I'm not very optimistic.
And since tics increase and decrease over time it'll be hard to attribute any changes to the tonsillectomy.

Hi,
Reading this thread has raised a red flag for me. My 19th month old son had strep throat about 4 weeks ago. A couple of days after he finished his antibiotic I want back for another culture and he tested positive after the 48hr mark. Since he was feeling fine, and he is allergic to quite a few types of antibiotic my doctor told me to come back a few days later to retest. Lo and behold a week later and he tested positive again. my pedetrician concluded that he must be a carrier for strep and since it isn't dangerous for a child his age we should hold off from meds. Now ever since this happened this kid wakes up every night at 1am and cries incessantly (which could just be a bad habit!)
After chancing upon this thread I am having doubts and getting scared that he may have/get pandas.
Any advice, or insight?

Being a carrier of strep does not mean that your child has PANDAS.

Have u noticed any other sudden changes in behavior? Is your child very irritable? Or sensory or has tics? Don't jump to conclusions too fast.

my son had "probable" PANDAS. elevated strep antibodies and symptoms of pandas...behavior, OCD etc. tics too I think. we took out his tonsils and it helped with the strep he was often getting. if your child is anyways getting strep often it might be a good idea to take out the tonsils regardless and then you can see if it helps...
I'm not sure if it helped in our case I dont think he has it any more, but I dont know if it just went away on his own or from the tonsillectimy. we did not do antibiotics. this was quite a few yrs ago and not as much research I think.

Looking for a PANDAS specialist in Israel if any of the posters are from here. My reg ped agreed with my PANDAS diagnosis and gave antibiotics twice and now the latest test for strep is negative but he still has his symptoms. I would like to go to a specialist. My son (7 yrs old) had reoccuring strep last year as well with behavior issues and tics and really affected his behavior the whole year. It went away and then came back within the year.

I really want to get this straightened out. The tics are worse eventhough the active strep is gone. The reg ped thinks he has mild Tourette's because of the tic. I have reading about the relation between them but I can't see how going to a neurologist to check out Tourette's is going to help his PANDAS unless there is a doctor who knows both well. Any suggestions? TIA

Dr schulmans daughter, Tamar Rosner, is a ped in Israel. Maybe she specializes in PANDAS. Just speculating tho.
