I'm planning a vacation sometime January. I'm pregnant and will be in my sixth month then.

I've never been to exotic locales, stuck to United states so I'm dying to go to one of above mentioned places.

Which place would be best as far as suitable activities for pregnant me, easiest to get kosher food( would love restaurants if possible) and relatively affordable?

Share your experience please!

I just went to PR a few months ago. I think it's probably the least exotic of the places you mentioned, but it was perfect for us and we'd love to go back.

Firstly, it's super affordable. We booked through jetblue vacations and got a really cheap package deal at one of the nicest resorts on the island. The resort area in San Juan is 5 minutes from the airport so it's a cheap cab ride, too, and no car rental expenses are necessary. Secondly, food is very accessible. The chabad house is in this area (Isla Verde) and you can order hot lunch and dinner from them every day. We combined this with free continental breakfast from the hotel and were good to go.

As far as activities, I can only share of what I know. We were there for 4 days and alternated beach/pool days with activity days. We chose to do a rainforest tour with a group one day, and set out to tour old san juan on our own another day. Both of these activities would be suitable during pregnancy. As far as the rainforest goes, different tours have different activity levels required, and as my husband isn't the most adventurous, we chose the easy tour Smile Many of the resorts also have casinos and live entertainment at night, so we spent our evenings hopping between our resort casino and the more lively one next door.

There's also a kosher restaurant in old san juan, but it only has 2 tables and the food is generic pizza shop fare. It's nice as an option if you're visiting the area, but I wouldn't make a trip there just for the food.

If you have any questions let me know.

I thought PR is literally bankrupt. How reliable is their healthcare system? Hawaii as an alternative? I've been to curacao but on a self - catering holiday.

It was about 2k for round trip airfare via jet blue, hotel for 4 nights with an oceanfront balcony, all food, and excursions. Plus some extra spending money for the casinos and gifts.

Not bad!! That's doable!

What about Cancun or Aruba, any experienced travelers?

I've been to all of the above and I would recommend the Bahamas,PR or Aruba. There wasn't much kosher in the Bahamas or Aruba though. Personally I wouldn't go to Mexico pregnant.
Nicole you got a great deal!

So looks like I'm leaning towards Puerto Rico , one of the hotels have a great babymoon package.

Do you need a passport for Puerto Rico? Mine expired....

Puerto Rico is part of the US--just not a state (yet). No passport necessary, US money, etc.

I think you need a current passport even within the US now. Have one, just in case.

No you don't. Your driver's license is fine.

I didn't find it to be congested with Jews, but I suppose if you're going during yeshiva break, it might be.

Actually, her driver's license may not be fine, depending where she's from and when she plans to travel:

Wow interesting; funny how the state department said they would issue residents in affected states ample notice regarding these changes and I haven't heard anything nor read anything regarding this until tonight. Thanks for posting, and I seriously think this should be reposted as a PSA-- but not before I send in my passport application Very Happy

I'm actually flying out of the country in December IYH, and now I'm concerned there will be a backlog of passport applications due to these federal changes!

It says you have a three month grace period once 2016 rolls around, so your travel plans in January should not be effected.

I went to Cancun for the first time ever several months ago & it was great but I was not pregnant so I don't know if I would recommend it as a place to go when pregnant.

There are lots of kosher options in Cancun-specifically chabad (which was closed when we went), a milchig place called DagDag which was also closed & a great Fleishig place called Kosher & Luxus where we ate every night we were there (3 nights).

Wherever you go, enjoy!!
