Hi everyone,
We're looking into a few different neighborhoods in NY but have no idea what to expect in terms of rent. Can anyone give me an idea of a typical monthly rent for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in: Monsey, Lawrence, Far Rockaway, Flatbush? If you know whether or not there are even nice rentals in these areas…that would also be helpful. Or any other suggestions of neighborhoods Thanks so much

A two bedroom in Far Rockaway is probably going to run you $1400 or more a month, depending on the area, and if it is not a basement. The Darchei area may be a little less, and a basement may also cut the price down, but I haven't seen any two bedrooms lately for less than $1300' even basements.

You can come to Manhattan and pay $2000 for a studio
Great communities and lots of conveniences and perks but "regular people" like us are getting shoved out by this trend. We are lucky to be "grandfathered into" a lower rent, so to speak, but alas back when that started we started with a very small apartment so it's either stay stuffed in here or move far, far away. The next larger apartment would be something like $2800 a month. Including utilities but not electric nor washer/dryer in apt.

Flatbush definitely high but take into consideration the need for no or only one car. Commute is easy and things are very accessible.

Good luck finding a house in Flatbush. It is really hard to find -a decent apartment that doesnt need some serious work.
