Though Brits do leave the "the" out when talking about going to hospital.

What about that sentence? My ds got it wrong anyway, but the teacher only wrote in and not in the. I'm not looking for mistakes the teacher might be making. I'm asking for myself. Like I told my friend who moved away , we're forgetting the correct way of saying things because we don't really have anyone to talk to on a day to day basis that speaks english. Even though when I go back to the states, they don't necessarily speak correctly either.

Nobody thinks that anyone speaks properly, no matter what the language!
One year I had a Spanish teacher from Puerto Rico, and the next year was a Spaniard from Barcelona. Talk about a difference!
DH spent his whole life learning biblical Hebrew. Now that I'm in ulpan, he tried telling me that my teacher was wrong about everything. When he saw that he was just confusing me, he decided that it would be better if he didn't try and help me with my homework, and just let me learn the method that I was being taught. DD is learning Ivrit in school, so she's much better at helping me practice.
Don't even get me started on Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Temani pronunciations!
