Either the 6 or 6 plus depends how big he likes his phone.
I am happy with the 6 my friend can't imagine life without her 6plus (personally I think its too big, almost a tablet!) .
As for the GB either 16 or 60. I like my 60 no worries about apps or photos or music.

I have an iphone and I find it to be much easier to use than android -- much more intuitive.
There are some great deals on refurbished unlocked iphones on Groupon right now.
