My 1 year old was crawling on a friend's deck, and got a few splinters in the palms of his hands. They don't seem to bother him- can I just leave them, and they'll fall out? I know to keep an eye on them in case of infection, but is there any worry that the skin will grow over them rather than pushing them out, and it will chas v'shalom cause problems later?

I think leaving a splinter in can lead to infection. Not all splinters just come out. It also depends how deep it is.
Get your child's hand very wet and then try to remove it but pulling back the wet skin where the splinter is. Once the spot is moist, its not so difficult.

I wouldn't. Best case the skin will grow thick in and around the splinter, in order to protect the body. It will bother your child when he or she gets older. Go to your ped. If your baby sleeps deeply you can try when she's sleeping with tweezers
