My 11 year old just showed me an interesting bump on one of her nipples. She says it hurts her when touched. Is this a normal thing when beginning to develop? It's a hard kind of bump just on one side.

Take her to her pediatrician tomorrow. Any type of bump should be checked out.

It could be an impacted Montgomery gland. Your pediatrician should be able to tell.

Don't think so. The bump is underneath her skin and can't be seen, only felt.

It is most likely a breast bud (you can google it) and normal breast development. It never hurts to check things out with the doctor if you are concerned (I did with one of my girls) but it's not an emergency.

My dd had a lot of pain and a small bump, kind of like what you're describing, right before her breasts started budding. Her pediatrician said it's probably just normal development, for some girls it hurts and it's nothing to worry about. He said to wait a few months and see if it's still a problem. By then she was fine and had starting visibly budding.

Definitely have it checked out, but be assured that it's probably fine.

I had the same thing at that age.
